Overview
The successful candidate will be able to support the acute team to assess, treat and discharge patients in a timely manner, and will have an understanding of system pressures and how these impact on patient care. They will be able to lead teaching in their specialist area and will lead 1:1 supervision sessions and appraisals. Service development is an essential component of the role, and they will have the opportunity to work closely with the Service Manager, Team Lead and the Quality Improvement Team to manage successful and productive change. The post is based in Basingstoke with expectation to work across other sites as needed.
Responsibilities
* Lead the delivery of the acute therapy service at Basingstoke Hospital and contribute to the advanced assessment and treatment of patients within the specialty.
* Maintain records as an autonomous practitioner and, alongside other band 7 therapists, support more junior staff to optimise patient flow while ensuring patient safety.
* Develop, deliver and review comprehensive and complex treatment programmes, holistic needs assessments, interventions and discharge plans using evidence-based practices and risk-management strategies for service users with complex needs and carers.
* Provide skilled clinical leadership, set and monitor standards of practice, and implement policy changes within own clinical area.
* Take a lead role in supervision and teaching of Therapists, students and MDT staff regarding therapy practice.
* Undertake quality improvement projects to advance team and department clinical practice, making recommendations to the team lead/service lead and representing the department within the Trust for implementation.
* Contribute to service development in collaboration with the Service Manager, Team Lead and Quality Improvement Team.
* Support the inpatient wards, the front door (ED/Acute Admissions) and the Therapy Early Discharge Service, with a good understanding of acute and community needs and patient flow issues.
* Be driven to deliver a high standard of care to service users and support others in professional identity and development.
* Be prepared to work at any NHS site within the Trust as needed (Basingstoke, Andover or Winchester).
Qualifications and skills
* Advanced assessment and treatment within the specialty and ability to maintain comprehensive records as an autonomous practitioner.
* Ability to lead, supervise and teach Therapists, students and MDT staff; capability to develop and implement effective treatment plans and risk management for complex cases.
* Experience in project work and service development with a focus on improving patient flow and safety.
