Ice Cream Job Title: Process Development Engineer

Purpose of Job
The Ice Cream Processing Team at Colworth has a vacancy for a Process Development Engineer. The final role profile and scope, including brand involvement, are flexible to fit career development requirements for the right candidate. Ice Cream is a complex product with many formats and processes. The Process Development Team identifies, creates, and delivers innovative and reliable new processes to support design and manufacture across brands (e.g. Magnum, CdO, Cornetto, Walls, Ben & Jerry’s, GROM, Cremissimo, Talenti).
The Process Development Engineer will support manufacturing technologies as part of multi-functional project teams (e.g. R&D, Marketing, Supply Chain, Procurement) and with external partners/suppliers. The successful candidate will stay up to date with emerging technologies and consumer trends to deliver processes for sustainable new products that delight consumers.
Working week: 37.5 hours. Competitive salary dependent on qualifications and experience. Other benefits include contributory pension and on-site facilities.
Main Accountabilities
* Support the Project Leaders on multiple projects including innovation, renovation, value improvement, waste reduction and quality improvement.
* Lead process development workstreams to ensure On Time in Full (OTIF) delivery of projects, including product & process design, laboratory and pilot plant prototype manufacture, trial design and execution, and plant commissioning & troubleshooting.
* Technical project scoping to include experimental design and use of Unilever’s product management systems, with delivery of functional process designs, process flow diagrams and specifications.
* Carry out simulation work as required to verify process, equipment, and control system performance prior to build & commissioning.
* Work closely with product technologists, other R&D capabilities, Marketing, and other functions to deliver process and product prototypes.
* Collaborate with suppliers, Supply Chain and factories to develop new process solutions, control systems, and data acquisition.
* Organise and manage pilot plant trials or industrial trials in involved factories.
