About the Role

We’re looking for a caring and committed Residential Support Worker to join our team. Your role will be to create a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment for the children in our care. You’ll encourage them to explore different activities, help them discover their strengths, and listen to their feedback so we can make their experiences even better. Most importantly, you’ll be someone they can trust and rely on.

What You’ll Be Doing

Building positive relationships with children, supporting them emotionally and practically in their daily lives.

Acting as a Key Worker for an assigned child, building a strong and trusting relationship with them and overseeing their general care and development.

Encouraging children to take part in activities that help them build confidence, discover new interests, and develop their strengths.

Listening to children’s thoughts and feelings about their experiences and using this to shape the care and support we provide.

Working as part of a team to ensure a safe, structured, and homely environment.

Supporting children through challenges with patience, empathy, and a consistent approach.

Keeping accurate records and contributing to care planning and progress reports.

Working closely with colleagues, social workers, and other professionals to ensure the best outcomes for each child.

Following safeguarding policies and procedures to keep children safe.

Taking part in training and regular supervision to develop your skills and knowledge.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

* A genuine passion for supporting children and young people.

* Experience (paid or voluntary) working with children in a residential, educational, or community setting.

* A good understanding of child development and how past experiences can shape behaviour and emotions.

* Strong communication and listening skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children.

* The ability to create a warm, engaging, and structured environment where children feel valued.

* A reflective approach—being open to feedback from children and using it to improve their experiences.

* Resilience, patience, and the ability to respond to challenges calmly and consistently.

* A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

* Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

* Basic IT and record-keeping skills.

* A full UK driving licence (desirable but not essential).

Desirable

* Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards it).

* Knowledge of therapeutic or strengths-based approaches to childcare.

* Experience supporting children with additional needs, mental health challenges, or behavioural difficulties.
