Airworthiness and Quality Support Engineer

We are seeking an Airworthiness & Quality Support Engineer to provide maternity leave cover within the UK Engineering Quality function for a key client in the aerospace sector. The role will support key quality, airworthiness, and product safety activities across UK sites, with a primary base at the Global Technology Centre (GTC), Bristol, and flexibility to support from Western Approach or Cowes as required.

This is a fixed‑term support role from mid‑January 2026 through February 2027, working 37 hours per week. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring compliance of Engineering functions with customer, regulatory, and internal Quality Management System (QMS) requirements, with particular focus on design assurance, audits, and safety management.


Responsibilities

* Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of Engineering compliance with regulatory, customer, and internal quality requirements.
* Conduct all required UK site audits and customer audits, including Airbus surveillance audits.
* Provide Engineering Quality support to Hydrogen Systems programmes, including audit activity, Quality Plan updates, and general quality support.
* Support the Technical Approvals Process, including maintenance of signatory and approval processes.
* Support the implementation and ongoing development of the Safety Management System (SMS) across UK.
* Develop, implement, and maintain Design Engineering Quality Assurance Plans for assigned programmes.
* Perform design assurance audits in accordance with agreed surveillance plans and regulatory requirements.
* Update and maintain quality procedures, work instructions, and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with design assurance requirements.
* Conduct audit reporting and ensure timely closure of findings within Design Engineering scope.
* Support investigations into non‑compliance with design requirements, including development and coordination of corrective actions.
* Represent Aerospace Design Engineering Quality in third‑party and customer audits, coordinating all associated activities within Design Engineering.
* Provide support and guidance on Airworthiness and Product Safety matters related to design assurance procedures.


Qualifications

* Recognised Lead Auditor qualification (AS9100:2016, ISO9001:2015, or equivalent).
* Relevant engineering or quality‑related qualification, or equivalent industry experience in aerospace engineering quality or design assurance.


Essential Skills

* Strong working knowledge of aerospace Quality Management Systems and regulatory frameworks (e.g. AS9100, EASA design assurance principles).
* Strong understanding of airworthiness, product safety, and design assurance requirements.
* Ability to develop, maintain, and control quality procedures, work instructions, and quality plans.
* Clear, professional communication skills with the ability to represent the organisation during audits.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple activities and priorities effectively.


Desired Skills

* Familiarity with technical approval and signatory control processes.
* Knowledge of Airbus customer‑specific requirements and surveillance processes.


Experience

* Demonstrated experience in aerospace engineering quality, design assurance, or airworthiness support roles.
* Experience performing audits and quality assurance activities within Design Engineering functions.
* Experience supporting customer and third‑party audits, including preparation, execution, and follow‑up.
* Proven ability to work within regulated environments and deliver compliance‑focused outcomes to defined timescales.
* Proven experience conducting internal, customer, and third‑party audits, including regulatory or OEM surveillance audits.
* Experience supporting design assurance processes and procedures within an engineering environment.
* Experience investigating non‑compliances and coordinating corrective and preventive actions.
* Experience supporting Safety Management System (SMS) implementation within an aerospace organisation.
* Previous experience supporting hydrogen or alternative propulsion system programmes.
* Experience working across multiple UK sites and interfacing with both engineering and quality stakeholders.
