Job Title: Solution Architect Platform Modernisation

The Role As a Solution Architect within our Platform and Innovation ecosystem, you will play a pivotal role in shaping forward-looking architectures that enable rapid, secure, and scalable delivery. Working on modernisation initiatives that protect customers and the bank from financial threats, you will design microservice and event-driven solutions that are resilient, maintainable, and cloud-native. This role offers the opportunity to influence platform strategy, enable engineering teams to move at pace, and deliver solutions that operate at enterprise scale while supporting innovation labs and product teams.
Your responsibilities:
Shape and deliver solution architecture aligned to strategic objectives across platforms and innovation labs, with a strong focus on microservices and event-driven architectures
Design scalable, resilient, and maintainable solutions, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards and long-term platform strategy
Lead complex design initiatives, balancing business outcomes, technical excellence, and delivery pragmatism
Work closely with Product Owners, engineering teams, and Enterprise Architects to enable high-velocity delivery
Champion best practices across compliance, security, quality assurance, and change management
Provide architectural leadership through design reviews, technology choices, and architectural governance
Mentor and coach engineers and architects, fostering technical excellence and continuous improvement
Influence long-term technology strategy by developing patterns, frameworks, and reusable architectural approaches
Support the transformation of legacy and monolithic systems into modern, cloud-native ecosystems
Your Profile
Essential skills/knowledge/experience:
Proven experience in solution architecture and engineering, with a strong track record designing microservice and cloud-based solutions
Hands-on engineering background (e.g. software development) with deep understanding of build, delivery, and design principles
Experience architecting modern ecosystems to support the transformation of monolithic applications
Strong understanding of event-driven architectures, APIs, and distributed systems
Ability to define and embed patterns, standards, and engineering practices across teams
Excellent storytelling and communication skills, able to articulate architectural vision and gain stakeholder alignment
Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to energise product, engineering, and architecture communities
Experience working within regulated environments, balancing innovation with compliance and risk management
Desirable skills/knowledge/experience:
Experience leading small to medium-sized teams, with the ability to coach and mentor technologists
Exposure to large-scale platform programmes or innovation lab environments
Experience influencing enterprise-level technology strategy and operating models
