We have an urgent requirement for an OPHTHALMOLOGY ( PAEDS ) - CONSULTANT. Additional Info: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday 09:00 - 17:30 & 08:00 - 17:30. Must have Paeds and Ocular Motility experience.
Job Summary
We're recruiting an experienced Ophthalmology Consultant to join a high‑quality eye service, delivering safe, patient‑centred care across outpatient clinics, diagnostics and surgical pathways. This role suits a locum consultant with at least six months recent NHS experience who can adapt quickly to NHS systems, pathways and multidisciplinary working.
About You
You're a clinically confident Ophthalmology Consultant with strong surgical skills and up‑to‑date knowledge across general ophthalmology and cataract surgery. You value teamwork, communicate clearly, and take pride in delivering a positive patient experience.
You're committed to maintaining high standards of care, working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and contributing to continuous service improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver high‑quality outpatient, diagnostic and surgical ophthalmology services, including cataract surgery and general ophthalmology care
* Provide subspecialty expertise where appropriate, supporting overall departmental capacity
* Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth and effective patient pathways
* Support junior doctors, nursing teams and wider clinical colleagues
* Contribute day to day‑case surgery provision in line with national and departmental standards
* Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with GMC and NHS Trust requirements
* Participate in clinical governance, audit, MDT activity and service development
* Provide clear advice and guidance to patients, carers, GPs and healthcare partners
Essential Skills & Experience
* Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
* Minimum six months recent NHS experience
* Strong cataract surgery experience and broad general ophthalmology competence
* Evidence of ongoing continuous professional development
* Clear and confident communication skills
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Compassionate, patient‑centred approach
Desirable Skills & Experience
* Subspecialty interest such as oculoplastic, cornea, glaucoma or medical retina
* Experience contributing to ophthalmology service development
* Teaching or supervisory experience
* Involvement in audit, quality improvement or research activity
