Job Overview
A young lady in Bynea with Spina Bifida & Hydro‑cephalus (affecting mobility) seeks a Personal Assistant to help her access the local community for up to 14 hours per week. She enjoys going in her wheelchair to the beach, Burry Port, or to Carmarthen/Swansea for shopping. The personal assistant car must accommodate her wheelchair in the boot and allow transfer via a banana board.
Principal duties and responsibilities
* Providing support with toileting whilst out in the community.
* Assisting on walks to the beach or Burry Port.
* Supporting the employer with encouragement in gaining independence.
* Enabling the employer to interact socially in their community.
* Providing support to the employer whilst shopping and attending activities of interest.
* Supporting the employer to develop independent living skills.
* Providing companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation and providing social interaction.
* Encouraging the employer to attend appointments.
* Ensuring the employer’s safety at all times during working hours.
* Carrying out any other reasonable tasks requested by the employer during working hours.
* Ensuring compliance with the Data Protection Act.
* Mindful of safeguarding issues, and notifying Carmarthenshire County Council immediately on (01267 228751) of any concerns.
* Responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance.

* Ability to develop supportive and caring relationship with employer.
* Undertake all duties in a friendly and helpful manner.
* Ability to contact people on behalf of the employer when necessary.
Job Working Environment
Working in the employer’s home and supporting them to access facilities and community activities.
Person specification – Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills
* Caring, patient and friendly.
* Responsible, reliable and honest.
* Proactive and self‑motivated with the ability to work on own initiative.
* Good local knowledge of the area where the employer lives.
* Good time‑keeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties as determined by the employer’s requirements.
* Ability to keep simple records such as time recording.
* Good communication skills, able to talk to people on behalf of the employer when required.
* Ability to develop long‑term supportive and consistent relationships with employers.
* A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is likely to be required. This is determined by the needs of the employer and whether you live within walking distance.
* Prepared to have business use added to your vehicle insurance to use the vehicle within work hours.
* Prepared to undergo training in order to best meet the employer’s needs.
Disclosure Barring Service (DBS)
A Disclosure Barring Service Check (DBS) / criminal record check will be required for this role. It will be completed on acceptance of a job offer.
