About the role
We are seeking a gynaecologist to strengthen our gynaecology team in preparation for the opening of our new surgical hub and to provide efficient, high‑quality care across Wakefield and North Kirklees. The role will support the dedicated Gynaecology assessment unit on the Pinderfields site and work across Pontefract, Dewsbury and Pinderfields hospitals.
Key responsibilities
* Attend General Gynaecology Clinics (9:00–13:00/13:30 and 17:30).
* Participate in day‑case and inpatient operating lists to maintain emergency gynaecology skills.
* Perform administrative duties with provided office space and secretarial support.
* Allocate DCC for multidisciplinary team meetings, annualised.
* Provide ‘Hot week’ cover for acute gynaecology (08:00–18:00, Monday–Friday, 1.5 pas); undertake ward rounds during this period.
* Carry out consultant pre‑ and post‑operative ward rounds in DCC for theatre sessions, annualised.
* Share on‑call duties for gynaecology with 14 colleagues on an approximately 1 in 8 basis (overnight and weekend cover).
* Support professional activities per the Trust Framework, including a minimum of 1.5 SPAs in the core 10PA timetable.
* Engage with the BSGE regional centre for endometriosis and tertiary sub‑specialty surgery services in partnership with Leeds Teaching Hospitals.
* Contribute to clinical governance, audit, teaching and training of junior staff and students.
* Participate in continuing medical education and hold a leadership role in the service.
Essential person specification
* Full GMC registration with licence to practise.
* Specialist registration on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT or equivalent.
* Medical degree from a recognized medical school; MRCOG or equivalent.
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
* ATS M: Benign abdominal surgery (open and laparoscopic) or equivalent.
* High clinical standards, experience in gynaecology service management, and teaching capability.
* Strong analytical, time‑management and communication skills.
* Proficiency with outpatient priority and theatre scheduling.
* Audit experience, ability to work within NHS performance frameworks and targets.
* Leadership and team‑working skills, with a caring attitude to patients.
* Physical ability to carry out the duties and a DBS clearance.
