Overview

There are 5 Geography specialists teaching to students in Key Stage 3 with strong uptake at Key Stage 4 and at A level. Geography GCSE is a very popular and successful subject, consistently over subscribed and achieving some of the strongest outcomes in the school. In the Sixth Form we offer A Level Geography, again a popular and successful subject.

Be responsible for ensuring the curriculum has appropriate depth and breadth, is sequenced effectively and fulfils the national curriculum. Support with quality assurance and ensure the needs of all students are considered, taking into account individual requirements. Fulfil the demands of the relevant specifications, tutor guides (schemes of work) and College ethos. Make a positive impact on student attainment and achievement.


Responsibilities

* Work with other staff in contributing to student learning, including supporting students outside their timetabled learning sessions through support clinics and tutorials.
* Enhance students' experience of Geography through involvement in enrichment and extension activities.
* Lead Geography team meetings, contribute to leadership meetings, and lead meetings/professional development sessions as appropriate.
* Collaborate with other staff to enhance the Geography curriculum, innovate new ideas to improve student outcomes and provide wider enriching experiences for students.
* Support reading across the College, including students in the early stages of reading.
* Assessment and Reporting: ensure regular formative assessment to address knowledge gaps and inform teaching; ensure assessments are appropriate to the curriculum; provide regular, incisive feedback in line with College policies; ensure recording and reporting align with College policies; accurately assess each learning group\'s attainment against targets and national benchmarks.
* Fulfil wider professional responsibilities: set high standards and aspirations; maintain a safe and well-ordered learning environment; actively seek professional development and keep up to date with curriculum and qualification changes.
* The Curriculum Leader for Geography should ensure the curriculum is highly effective in planning and delivery, reflects the ethos of the College, and provides clear leadership for teachers in the team.
* Audit and review of student learning with improvement plans prepared, implemented, monitored and evaluated; high-quality planning of student learning; efficient use of facilities and resources; appropriate administrative procedures to maintain accurate assessment records.
* Ensure roles and responsibilities are delegated appropriately; set objectives that provide opportunities for professional development; provide adequate guidance and support to enable the Geography team to fulfil its roles and responsibilities; identify professional development needs; monitor and evaluate the work of individuals and the team.
* Be creative and hardworking; have excellent personal organisational skills; be adaptable with a good sense of humour and initiative; be a strong team worker able to build relationships across the organisation; be prepared to contribute to broad aspects of Geography and related activities; be proactive and forward-thinking with an understanding of developments in Geography; be able to work effectively as part of a high-performing team.


Qualifications

* A graduate with qualified teacher status; outstanding Geography teaching with a strong track record; relevant qualifications (formal or through experience) for the appointment; excellent in-depth knowledge of Geography and its place in the development of young people and the wider curriculum.
* To secure high standards of learning and achievement in Geography across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5; demonstrate excellent subject knowledge; understand curriculum, teaching, learning and assessment strategies to enable all learners to achieve their potential; high expectations of young people; ability to work effectively as part of a team and share good practice.
