Metrology Engineer
Location - Derby / Blackburn (UK) + International Travel
Salary up to £50,000
We are recruiting for a Metrology Engineer to join a leading aerospace manufacturer, supporting multiple sites across the UK and internationally. This role will focus on developing and standardising CMM and metrology processes across the group, improving measurement efficiency, accuracy, and consistency.
Key Responsibilities:
Review and improve existing CMM programs, measurement methods, and inspection processes
Develop and implement a Group-wide CMM and metrology strategy
Conduct site visits and process assessments across UK and international facilities
Optimise CMM cycle times, probing strategies, and inspection plans
Support new product introduction (NPI) with robust measurement strategies
Drive improvements in measurement accuracy, throughput, and reporting
Provide technical support during customer audits and quality investigations
Develop and deliver training for CMM programmers and inspectors
Establish standard procedures, documentation, and governance across sites
Requirements:
Proven experience as a CMM Programmer or Metrology Engineer
Strong knowledge of PC-DMIS programming
Good understanding of GD&T, engineering drawings, and tolerancing
Experience with measurement system analysis (MSA), SPC, and capability studies
Background within aerospace or precision engineering
Experience with automated inspection, laser scanning, or non-contact metrology would be preferable
Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement would be beneficial
HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering preferred
