Overview

This is your chance to join a company that’s shaping the future of solutions-driven work. TBG Solutions designs and manufactures complex electro-mechanical systems for some of the most highly regulated and performance-critical industries in the world, including automation, aerospace, medical, and defence to name a few.

We’re TBG Solutions and we operate on a national basis providing test, measurement and control services. We work with customers to understand their requirements and, on identifying the principal challenges, engineer robust solutions that combine hardware and software.

You’ll be joining a collaborative engineering-led environment where experience is respected, ideas are welcomed, and progression comes from capability and contribution—not job titles. If you’re motivated by high-quality workmanship, continuous improvement, and the opportunity to grow alongside a company that invests in its people, this role offers both challenge and long-term development.

Across the business, we foster a culture of inclusivity and champion personal development so that each employee has opportunities to shine and flourish, and we want you to be a part of it.

As our newly appointed Service Engineer you will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, servicing, maintenance, and fault diagnosis of bespoke automated test equipment at customer sites and in-house. The role requires a strong blend of electrical and mechanical engineering expertise, system-level debug capability, and robust IT and software skills to operate and troubleshoot complex test systems controlled by custom and commercial software platforms.

The successful candidate will act as a key technical interface between the customer, engineering, and manufacturing teams, ensuring high levels of system performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

Role responsibilities:

* Install, commission, and support bespoke automated test systems at customer sites.
* Perform preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and system upgrades.
* Respond to customer support requests, providing on-site and remote technical assistance.
* Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, software, and system-level faults efficiently.
* Carry out system validation and acceptance testing following installation or repair.
* Provide customer training on system operation and basic troubleshooting.

Fault Finding & Debug:

* Debug complex electro-mechanical systems incorporating switching, motion control, sensors, actuators, and test instrumentation.
* Use software tools, diagnostics, logs, and test scripts to aid fault isolation and resolution.
* Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and system documentation.
* Work closely with design and software engineering teams to identify root causes and implement long-term fixes.

Software & IT Interaction:

* Operate and support test systems controlled via PC-based software, HMIs, PLCs, or custom applications.
* Use software tools to control equipment, modify parameters, run diagnostics, and support debugging activities.
* Support networking, data acquisition, and communication protocols (e.g. Ethernet, serial, fieldbus).
* Assist with software updates, configuration management, and system backups.
* Provide feedback to software development teams to improve usability, robustness, and serviceability.

Documentation & Reporting:

* Accurately record service activities, fault reports, and corrective actions.
* Maintain service records and contribute to technical documentation and service manuals.
* Provide clear feedback to engineering and manufacturing to support continuous improvement.
* Adhere to company quality, safety, and compliance procedures.
* You may be required to perform any other duties and to work in any other areas as requested by the Company, if necessary, which may include other offices and those of clients.

Qualifications

* Candidates must have a history of success in similar roles, be self-motivated and have a passion for quality engineering.
* Strong practical knowledge of electrical and electronic systems (control panels, wiring, sensors, drives, instrumentation).
* Good mechanical aptitude, including pneumatics, actuators, mechanisms, and general machine assembly.
* Proven experience in fault finding and debugging complex automated systems.
* Strong IT and software skills, with confidence using PC-based tools to control, configure, and diagnose equipment.
* Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
* Experience working in a customer-facing or field-based engineering role.
* Methodical approach to problem solving with strong analytical skills.
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Willingness to travel, including occasional overnight stays.
* Experience with automated test equipment, production test systems, or bespoke machinery – Desirable.
* Knowledge of PLCs, motion control systems, or industrial automation software – Desirable.
* Familiarity with scripting, configuration tools, or basic programming (e.g. LabVIEW, Python, C#, or similar) – Desirable.
* Understanding of industrial networks and communication protocols – Desirable.
* Experience working in regulated or high-reliability industries (e.g. aerospace, automotive, medical, electronics) – Desirable.
* Formal engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree) in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronic, or related discipline – Desirable.
* Hands-on, practical, and adaptable.
* Customer-focused with a professional and proactive attitude.
* Able to work independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Calm under pressure with a logical and structured approach to fault finding.
* Committed to high standards of quality and safety.
* Possess all requirements for successfully meeting formal Security Check (SC) criteria.
* Field-based role with travel to customer sites.
* Mix of on-site, office, and workshop-based activities.
* Occasional out-of-hours or weekend work may be required to support customers.

In addition to a competitive salary, you can expect:
