Community Staff Nurse

Closing date: 11 June 2026.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Community staff nurse to join the District Nursing Service in Cramlington. The role involves providing patient‑centred care in homes, residential care settings, and clinics. The successful candidate will work autonomously as part of a team reporting directly to the line manager and the community nursing team lead.


Main duties of the job

Community staff nurses assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for a diverse group of patients with a wide range of conditions and health needs. Duties include:

* Development and delivery of programmes of health and social care.
* Delivery of care and support to patients with terminal illness and their families, including emotional and bereavement support.
* Skilled nursing care such as wound management, palliative care and catheterisation.
* Performing diagnostic tests including Ankle Brachial Pressure Index using Doppler and interpreting results to decide further care.
* Procedures requiring fine dexterity such as venepuncture, drug administration by injection and removal of sutures.
* Interpreting results and communicating them to patients, e.g., blood glucose estimation, and explaining aspects of care to patients and carers.
* Maintaining high standards of professional practice and sharing approaches and experience with others.
* Upholding a duty of care to patients, carers and colleagues through personal and professional accountability.


Job responsibilities

* Provide clinical care to patients with acute and chronic health problems and perform a range of clinical procedures and assessments in primary and community settings.
* Work with patients and carers in partnership, delivering health education and nursing care within the scope of professional practice.
* Supervise the work of auxiliary nurses and student nurses on placement while working largely unsupervised.
* Model compassionate and inclusive leadership, engaging, enabling and empowering others, using coaching to promote learning and quality improvement, and facilitating team working within and across the organisation.


Qualifications / Professional Registration

* State Registration on Part 1 of the 3‑part NMC register.
* Additional clinical qualifications or equivalent experience at diploma/degree level, if applicable.
* Evidence of qualification to supervise, teach and assess students (must be completed within 18 months of appointment).
* Newly qualified staff required to undertake the Trust preceptorship programme within the first year in post.


Experience and knowledge

* Experience of working without direct supervision in a healthcare environment.
* Knowledge or experience of coaching and mentoring practices and tools.
* Knowledge or experience of quality improvement tools, techniques and methods.


Other requirements

* Valid driving licence and vehicle access (own car or Trust personal lease vehicle) or reasonable adjustments for disabled candidates.

Salary: £32,073 to £39,043 a year (pro rata per annum).
