Overview

Join to apply for the Advanced Nurse Practitioner - ENT role at NHS Scotland

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

There are 2x permanent, full-time 37 hours per week posts available. The shift pattern is core hours. As part of an exciting major redesign of service delivery in the ENT Department in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde we are looking to recruit 2 band 7 Nurse Practitioners. The redesign is the formation of an ENT Otology / Rhinology service to manage new referrals to the sub specialty. The new Nurse Practitioners will help develop and implement the new role of ENT Nurse Practitioner Otology / Rhinology and will work closely with a full-time ENT Consultant to deliver this. This is a cutting-edge new role for Nurse Practitioners in ENT and will lead to significant improvements in the delivery of care for Otology / Rhinology patients. It is a chance to be at the forefront of the development of this new nursing role and we are looking for exceptional and highly motivated people to join our team.

The new posts will support the new Head and Neck Diagnostic Hub situated in the outpatient department in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Successful completion of their training will allow them to assess, diagnose and manage the clinical (medical and nursing) needs of patients with a range of Otology / Rhinology conditions referred directly from primary care, ENT Consultants and other specialities in secondary care.

As Nurse Endoscopy is a new role in ENT no prior experience of performing flexible nasal endoscopy is required. You should provide evidence of being able to demonstrate autonomous clinical decision making within a multidisciplinary team environment. You will work within the nursing, medical and multi-professional team to ensure a high standard of care which will include conducting invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures where appropriate. You will have an exceptional opportunity to facilitate change to improve quality within the service and promote and support innovation in practice.

This post may also be considered as an Annex 21 post at Band 7. You must be a First Level Registered Nurse with a minimum of 6 years post registration experience with at least 4 years ENT experience gained from ward, outpatient or ENT theatre roles. You will ideally be educated to degree level or have commensurate experience, possess well developed IT skills and be able to demonstrate good organisational and time management skills. Possession of a nonmedical prescribing qualification is desirable but not essential as training will be given and training in flexible endoscopy is not essential as this will be provided. It is essential that the post holder possesses excellent communication skills and displays a real drive to improve care in the largest ENT department in the UK.
