Junior Accounts Assistant
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Accounts Assistant to join our clients Finance Department. This is an entry-level finance role designed for someone at the start of their accounting career who is actively studying towards, or planning to study towards, AAT qualifications. The role provides hands-on experience across core finance functions while supporting the Accounts Team and Finance Director in the smooth running of the Finance Department.
The successful candidate will develop practical accounting skills, gain exposure to business operations, and contribute to continuous improvement through a proactive and flexible approach. Key Responsibilities
* Invoice Processing: Raise invoices accurately and timely, ensuring all necessary information is included and properly recorded in the accounting system.
* Sales Ledger Management: Maintain and update the sales ledger, including recording payments, reconciling accounts, and following up on overdue invoices.
* Purchase Ledger Management: Process and record supplier invoices, manage payment schedules, and reconcile supplier statements.
* Bank Reconciliations: Perform regular bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial records and identify any discrepancies.
* Credit Control: Assist in credit control activities, including contacting customers regarding overdue payments and maintaining communication records.
* Financial Reporting: Support the preparation of financial reports, including monthly management accounts and ad-hoc financial analysis.
* Data Entry and Maintenance: Ensure accurate and timely entry of financial data into accounting systems, maintaining data integrity and confidentiality.
* Document Management: Organize and maintain financial documents, both physical and digital, ensuring easy retrieval and compliance with retention policies.
* Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute ideas to enhance efficiency in the Finance Department.
* General Administration: Assist with general finance-related administrative tasks as required, including filing, correspondence, and data management.
Qualifications and Skills
* Currently studying towards or planning to study AAT qualifications
* Strong numerical skills and attention to detail
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting software
* Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement
* Basic understanding of accounting principles and practices
* Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and data protection
Experience
While this is an entry-level position, candidates with the following experience will be at an advantage:
* Previous work experience in an office environment, preferably in a finance-related role
* Familiarity with accounting software such as Sage, QuickBooks, or Xero
* Experience in customer service or client-facing roles
