Job Title: Sports Coach / Learning Support Location: Rotherham Salary: £460 – £650 per week Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time, Long-term / Day-to-day Start Date: Immediately GSL Education is seeking energetic and motivated individuals with a sports, coaching or fitness background to support learners in secondary school settings across Rotherham. These roles are school-based support positions where you will assist with classroom learning, supervise lessons and help maintain positive behaviour and engagement throughout the school day. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to transition from sport or fitness into education, using coaching experience to build rapport, manage behaviour and support young people in a structured school environment. Your sports background is a strength here, but your day-to-day focus will be on learning support, not sport delivery. About the Role: This role is ideal for individuals from sports coaching, fitness instruction or youth work backgrounds who want to work within education. You will support teaching staff, supervise classes when required and help students stay focused and engaged in their learning. You may also provide support for SEN learners, behaviour interventions or small group academic support across secondary subjects. Key Responsibilities: Support teachers in delivering lessons and classroom-based learning activities Supervise classes as a cover supervisor or learning support assistant when required Use skills gained from sport and coaching to support behaviour and engagement Help students remain focused, regulated and on task during lessons Support pupils with additional learning or behavioural needs where required Contribute to a structured, safe and supportive classroom environment Provide feedback to staff on student engagement and behaviour Requirements: Background in sports coaching, fitness, youth work or similar experience Confidence working with secondary-aged students in a school environment Strong communication and relationship-building skills Calm, adaptable and consistent approach to behaviour support Ability to follow school systems and work as part of a team Interest in working in education, not sport-based delivery This is a fantastic opportunity for sports coaches and active professionals in Rotherham to step into school-based roles and build valuable experience in education and classroom support.
