We are looking for a Health Promotion Nurse (Registered Adult Nurse) to join our Cancer Information & Engagement team in the Northeast of England. In this role, you will deliver the Cancer Awareness Roadshow and other health promotion activities across your region. The Roadshow plays a vital role in achieving our vision of beating cancer. We travel to the heart of communities, talking to over 51,000 people every year about cancer. Our nurses directly reach people most in need, helping people to take steps to reduce their risk of cancer through lifestyle changes and supporting them to maintain those changes lifelong.

If you’re an experienced NMC‑registered Adult Nurse based in the Northeast of England and passionate about helping your community in beating cancer, we would love for you to join our mission.

What will I be doing?

1. Working as a core part of our Cancer Awareness team to engage people face-to-face, providing information on cancer prevention, screening, and early detection.

2. Organising and delivering Cancer Awareness presentations and training to community groups and supporting other public health initiatives in our Nurse-led Cancer Awareness activities.

3. Collecting and inputting data to evaluate local engagement activities.

4. Getting involved with other Cancer Awareness outreach activities in the local community.

5. Managing a team of Health Awareness Volunteers and supporting them to be involved with Cancer Awareness activity where appropriate.

What skills will I need?

6. Registered Adult Nurse – Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) registration is mandatory for this role and must be maintained at all times.
7. Nursing experience of at least one of the following: health promotion, practice nursing, occupational health, health visiting, district/community nursing or other adult nursing experience.
8. Excellent verbal communication skills with a proven ability to engage individuals in meaningful conversations, and apply patient‑centred coaching and motivational interviewing techniques to support positive health behaviour change.
9. Successful track record in delivering public-facing work, with an understanding of the challenges associated with engaging hard-to-reach groups and addressing health inequalities.
10. Understanding of the importance and need for adhering to data protection, quality assurance, and other compliance policies at all times.
11. Excellent written, administration and organisation skills with the ability to keep accurate and confidential records.
12. Excellent self-awareness with the ability to recognise development areas and to seek training and support as necessary.
13. Flexible and autonomous with the ability to:Travel across the Northeast of England. This role will be field-based within this region, with Sunderland acting as the centre-point and covering a 35-mile radius in each direction from there.Work a shift pattern of 28 hours per week between Monday-Thursday with occasional weekend shifts (up to x5 per year).Important note: this role will be eligible for a Car Allowance worth £4,500. Employees who receive a car allowance must have a UK driver's licence, provide a suitable car for business purposes, and be prepared and comfortable driving over short and long distances. Allowance is based on the criteria of a minimum business mileage of 5,000 per annum.
14. Available to start on or before 06 April 2026.
