Job overview We are seeking a motivated and organised Assistant Librarian to join our NHS library service. This role is ideal for an individual looking to support the delivery of high-quality library and information services within a healthcare setting. You will work closely with the Librarian Team Leader and other team members to support clinical decision-making, education, and research across our trust. Note this role is suitable for either a newly qualified Librarian or someone with library qualification and going through chartership or willing to enrol. This is a development role to enable the post-holder to complete their Chartership qualifications and will provide a newly qualified librarian with the experience and skills they would need to explore a career pathway within Library and Knowledge Services in the NHS. Main duties of the job The Assistant Librarian (pre-chartership) plays a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of library, information and knowledge services to healthcare professionals, students on placement, researchers, and other groups. The role will be Line Managed by the Librarian Team Leader and will assist in the day-to-day management of library collections, provide user support, service development, and contribute to the promotion of evidence-based practice and information skills training. The post is a developmental post and will be for a fixed term period of two years and will provide a newly qualified librarian with the experience and skills they would need to explore a career pathway within Library and Knowledge Services in the NHS. The role will be based on the EDGH site but may on occasion be required to work in the Conquest Education Centre. The Assistant Librarian will provide daily presence along the Library Assistants and the Senior Library Assistant to ensure daily operations of Library Services. The role will involve gaining in-depth experience and skill in specific functions of knowledge and library services including stock selection, cataloguing, literature searches, critical appraisal, teaching information literacy, e-resources management, library website, marketing and promotion working with all Library staff. The role will have the opportunity to attend KSS Training and Searching Forum, visit other libraries in the region and lead on at least one project as part of their professional development.
