Brief Description: Route Services is a division of Network Rail that provides the Routes with services so they can help Network Rail deliver a better railway for a better Britain. We support the Routes with a myriad of services and supplies they need to maintain and operate the railway. To learn more, please watch our video.
This role is within Supply Chain Operations (SCO), which supplies and delivers logistics, materials, components, and fleet for railway maintenance and renewal.
SCO ensures that materials, machinery, and components are on-site when needed, enabling work to proceed as planned. Watch our video.
About the role (External): We are looking to enhance our project management capabilities within the Wheeled Plant team, part of Strategic Capital Programmes. The team delivers capital renewal, enhancement, and overhaul work for SCO’s fleet of ‘yellow plant and trains’ to ensure a safe and reliable railway.
You will manage the safe and effective delivery of low complexity projects (LoC 3 and 4) or support the project or programme manager in delivering complex projects (LoC 1 and 2), ensuring they meet time, cost, quality, and performance requirements.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Deliver low complexity projects or parts of complex projects safely, environmentally responsibly, on time, within budget, and to quality standards in accordance with GRIP stages, Network Rail standards, legislation, and procedures including HMRI and CDM regulations.
2. Support the project Sponsor and Client in defining project requirements.
3. Manage multidisciplinary teams, including construction resources, to successfully deliver projects, establishing robust plans.
4. Identify, monitor, and mitigate project risks and respond to issues.
5. Provide project management support, including setting up monitoring and reporting systems aligned with standards.
6. Develop supply strategies and framework contracts.
7. Control project changes, estimates, risks, and costs throughout the project lifecycle.
8. Plan and secure resources needed for project delivery.
9. Manage stakeholders considering their influence and interests, complying with the Investment Competence Framework.
10. Conduct project reviews to inform governance decisions, evaluating progress, performance, risks, and relevance.
11. Assist in accident investigations when required.
12. Maintain a safe working environment, including site setup, plant operation, access, and safety planning.
Job Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:
* Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline.
* Membership or progress towards membership of the Association for Project Management.
* PRINCE2 Foundation, APMP, or equivalent certification.
* Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
* Experience in contracting and project delivery.
* Knowledge of project budget management.
* Good evaluation and decision-making skills.
* Understanding of project safety management and health and safety legislation.
* Knowledge of safety cases and network rail’s project, investment, and procurement practices.
* Experience in risk management.
* Flexible, proactive approach.
* Understanding of Network Rail’s assets management.
