Benefits and Assessments Officer: Welfare Rights Service Salary - £36,363 to £40,777 (Grade 6) Hours - 37 hours per week Work Style - ( e.g - Flexible: working from home with 2 days in a council location, Fixed: permanent council location, Field: working in communities across the city) We are seeking a Benefits and Assessment Officer to work full-time within our Financial and Assessment Team. This team’s primary function is to undertake financial assessments to establish the level of contribution people are expected to make towards the cost of Care and Support whilst also ensuring that the take-up of Social Security benefit entitlements is maximised. The post holders will be expected to: manage and keep up-to-date their own financial assessment case load work in partnership with members of the council’s Social Work teams in gathering financial and disability-related expenditure information relevant to individual Care and Support financial assessments use legislation, guidance and policy in assessing individual financial assessments investigate and gather financial and any other relevant information for the Contributions Appeals Panel in cases of dispute relating to the outcome of a financial assessment undertake individual ‘missing benefit’ assessments (completing benefit claim forms for disability and carers benefits where necessary) on new and existing customers undertake First-tier Tribunal appeals work when benefit entitlements are disputed use the council’s case management systems (CareFirst, Eclipse, Agresso and Better Care Finance) to record and keep up-to-date financial assessment information. You must have an awareness of the contribution provisions as covered under the Care Act 2014, have experience in providing Social Security benefits advice, be committed to the rights of disabled and vulnerable people and the council’s contributions policy and practice and have excellent communication and negotiation skills.
