Job Title: Relief Worker – Care Assistant
Salary: £15.40 per hour
Working Hours: As and when required
Location: Harbour Place, Workington
Role Overview
You will provide assistance to residents in need of physical personal care and carry out individual tasks with residents in line with their support plans to maintain or improve their quality of life and to recognise signs of distress. You will work with the team to identify and assess positive ways to reduce distress and give residents control over their lives wherever possible.
Responsibilities
* Deliver and enable customers to meet the aspirations within their individual support plans, keeping up‑to‑date information on changing needs.
* Provide direct personal care to customers in line with Care Quality Commission (CQC) definitions (showering, shaving, toileting, continence management, personal hygiene).
* Assist customers to go to bed, wake up, dress and maintain appearance.
* Safely help with mobility difficulties and use assessed equipment or manual handling equipment.
* Administer and support medication for customers.
* Assist with preparation of meals, snacks and drinks where necessary.
* Perform light general household duties such as cleaning, laundry and ironing.
* Help manage personal affairs as part of the support plan (reading letters, utilities, small monetary transactions).
* Communicate clearly, building trusted relationships with customers and their wider support network.
* Provide companionship, engage in conversation and encourage participation in social activities.
* Ensure safety by following Riverside’s policies on health & safety, equal opportunities and cash handling.
* Take pride and initiative, creating a safe, comfortable and respectful living environment.
* Maintain accurate records of care, medication and tasks performed.
* Respond promptly to and report concerns about care, well‑being or behaviour, ensuring confidentiality.
* Recognise signs of abuse and report immediately in accordance with safeguarding procedures.
* Record complaints and discuss the complaints procedure with customers.
* Act in line with Riverside company values – “Our Riverside Way”.
Other Duties
* Work a 24‑hour, 7‑day per week rota, including various shifts.
* Undertake regular training to deliver the role safely.
* May perform additional duties in consultation with line manager.
Additional Requirements
* Travel to other locations where necessary.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
* Experience working in a team and communicating positively.
* Ability to organise tasks and plan while interacting with people.
* Caring, empathetic, flexible, resilient, can‑do attitude.
* Initiative and confidence to make and act on decisions.
* Basic administrative and IT skills (Microsoft Office).
Desirable:
* Awareness of CQC standards.
* Experience providing direct care to a diverse group of customers.
