Overview
Senior Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) or Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioner (MHWP) to join us in providing low intensity psychology interventions to adults from the regional Neurology, Neurosciences and Neurorehabilitation services. This is a permanent contract with flexible hours based on needs, ranging from 0.6 WTE up to full-time. The post holder must be registered with BABCP or BPS accreditation bodies and have significant post-qualifying experience in delivering low intensity psychological interventions. Experience and training in working with people with long term health conditions is desirable.
Job responsibilities
To provide a low intensity evidence-based psychological therapy service in line with Step 2 of the stepped care model. To deliver both one-to-one and group interventions and to provide triage assessments. To provide supervision and case management of trainee and qualified PWP/MHWP as required. To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the policies and procedures of the Department and Trust. To contribute to audit, policy and service development as required.
Clinical
* Provide Step 2 evidence-based psychological interventions in accordance with NICE Guidelines to individuals, often with multiple presenting problems.
* Conduct risk assessments and initiate appropriate actions, including referrals to secondary care services.
* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care and treatments using advanced clinical knowledge and skills.
* Manage waiting lists with appropriate prioritisation; refer clients to other team members or external agencies as needed.
* Maintain up-to-date resource directory for clients; contribute to service development with the Service Lead.
* Deliver a high-quality service as an expert practitioner and promote evidence-based practice.
* Write policies for the PWP/MHWP service to be ratified by the Service Lead; ensure compliance with professional standards, data protection and confidentiality principles.
* Promote safe working practices; ensure safe use and management of equipment and supplies.
* Support clients to receive required information to participate in treatment; develop and implement policy and practice guidelines specific to the clinical specialty.
* Receive regular clinical supervision; participate in audits and national, regional or local conferences as appropriate.
Education and Training
* Participate in the development of personal development plans and performance reviews; attend national, regional and local conferences; keep up to date with developments in the specialty.
Leadership
* Investigate and respond to accidents, complaints and significant events; deliver an effective quality service within budgetary constraints; contribute to service development and clinical governance.
Research and Audit
* Contribute to research agenda; engage users and carers views; undertake audit programmes specific to client group, treatments and developments.
Person specification
Experience – Essential
* Substantial experience as a qualified PWP/MHWP, delivering low intensity interventions at Step 2 across a wide range of emotional issues.
* Develops and follows policy guidelines on client safety; high-level risk assessment skills.
* Experience of working in the NHS or a large public body; managing a complex and varied caseload independently.
* Experience with clinical audit and standard setting; excellent oral and written communication, listening and therapeutic skills.
Experience – Desirable
* Service development or change management; experience with waiting list targets; experience working with clients with physical health conditions.
Skills and Behaviours – Essential
* Lateral thinking; strong analytical and reflective skills; ability to work within time-limited framework.
* Independent working with clients within policies and codes of conduct; excellent communication; ability to assess and respond to complex presentations.

Qualifications – Essential
* Postgraduate/Graduate Certificate in Psychological Wellbeing Practice (Low intensity) or Mental Health Wellbeing Practice.
* Post-qualification experience; BABCP or BPS accreditation; evidence of continued professional development at post-graduate level; long-term conditions training or willingness to undertake this training on entering the post.
Qualifications – Desirable
* Degree relevant to current post (e.g., psychology, neuroscience or mental health).
