We are looking for an energetic and experienced Associate Director Civil Structural Engineer to join our Design & Advanced Technology (D&AT) Practice. You will deliver iconic projects across the Energy, Defence, and Nuclear sectors, such as Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C, and Ministry of Defence Frameworks.
This position is based in Belfast, Glasgow or Manchester and includes hybrid working (three days per week on site). The role offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity to apply your knowledge and problem‑solving skills while advancing your career.
Your role
As an Associate Director Civil Structural Engineer, you will:
* Lead a team of Civil Structural Engineers delivering technical design work on complex multi‑disciplinary projects in reinforced concrete or structural steel buildings, foundations and underground structures.
* Develop project design deliverables, manage time and budgets with the project management team, and meet key milestones.
* Produce, review and approve technical deliverables such as design reports, drawings, calculations and scopes of work.
* Provide technical leadership within the discipline for the regional and national D&AT practice, influence practice‑wide initiatives and recommend best practices.
* Grow, develop and manage Civil Structural Engineering capabilities within the regional and/or national practice.
* Work independently in challenging situations, exercise judgment, and provide guidance to junior team members.
* Advise on client, operational, project or service activities within project teams and wider D&AT initiatives.
* Manage or collaborate on technical aspects of bid proposals.
* Work closely with a multi‑disciplinary team in the UK and overseas to deliver integrated design solutions.
About you
* Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent.
* Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer.
* Proven experience leading large‑scale Civil Structural engineering design delivery for a design consultancy in a multi‑disciplinary environment.
* In‑depth knowledge of reinforced concrete and steel structural design.
* Excellent communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
* Expertise in current design codes and standards, including CDM Regulations.
* Knowledge of international design codes (e.g., American codes) beneficial but not required.
* Proficiency with analytical software such as Tekla, Robot or STAAD.
* Experience in the nuclear energy or nuclear defence market (essential).
* Experience in dynamic or seismic design (beneficial).
* Proactive, highly motivated mindset with collaborative approach to drive teamwork.
* Comfortable liaising with stakeholders at all levels.

Additional information
This role may require security clearance. Employment will be granted only upon obtaining the relevant clearance level. The vetting process is delivered by the United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require proof of UK residency for five years or longer.
