Associate Professor – Machine Learning & NLP (Social Media Analytics)
Full‑time, 2‑year convertible tenure track at UNSW, Sydney, NSW, Australia. Salary, Level D – AUD $185,917 to $204,218 per annum + 17% superannuation.
Responsibilities
- Lead high‑impact research in Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing, including large language models and social media analytics, with national and international visibility.
- Shape the strategic direction of research and education in AI and NLP at the School of Computer Science and Engineering.
- Foster industry engagement and collaborations, contributing to the School’s research profile and educational excellence.
- Secure competitive research funding, lead research initiatives, and supervise higher‑degree research students.
- Deliver high‑quality teaching and develop curriculum at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Demonstrate clear leadership within the discipline, including academic governance and program development.
Qualifications and Skills
- A PhD (or equivalent) in a related discipline and/or relevant work experience.
- Proven commitment to staying current with discipline knowledge and developments.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, course development and delivery at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
- Experience with educational technologies and online delivery methods.
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness, passion for educational excellence, and fostering this in others.
- Demonstrated experience with industry or work‑integrated learning.
- Professional development of teaching practice and leadership of an inclusive culture of excellence in learning and teaching.
- Successful initiation of curriculum development and improvement.
- Highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.
- Significant track record in research leadership with high‑quality, high international impact outcomes.
- Excellent record of recruiting and supervising high‑calibre students.
- Leadership in building engagement and partnerships with the profession and industry.
- Understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values, and relevant policies and guidelines.
