Role description:
The role
provides technical
leadership
and mentoring to a high‑performing Digital Engineering team, with full responsibility for the learning and development of digital electronic engineers across the radar product portfolio. Acting as the subject matter
expert
for electronic engineering, you will influence technical direction, assure engineering excellence, and support business success by coordinating robust digital engineering estimates for bids and cost‑to‑complete activities. This is a key
leadership
role shaping capability, quality, and delivery in a critical technology domain.
Core duties:
Applying technical knowledge in the Digital and Electronic domain for complex Radar designs
Team leadership and mentoring of the Digital Engineering team
Responsible for the learning & development of the Digital Electronic Engineers working across the Radar product area
Subject matter expert in Electronic Engineering discipline
Coordinate Digital Engineering estimates in support of bidding activities and cost to complete estimates
Essential skills:
A degree in Electronic Engineering or strongly related subject
A solid understanding of the digital techniques design process including requirements generation, design and implementation. Knowledge of complex digital PCB design. Knowledge of digital devices in particular FPGAs
Enough knowledge to be able to specify against these technologies and communicate with specialists in these areas – digital, analogue, RF and electrical
Experience in the whole design process from requirements to design assurance and sign off
Team leadership, people development, mentoring, succession planning and resource demand forecasting experience
Previous experience of operating in a defence or high safety integrity environment

You will be working as a Principal Electrical Engineer within our close-knit multi-function radar team of inter-disciplinary engineers, evolving our radar portfolio of existing and brand-new radar products to address emerging and future threats.

Our workplace in Cowes is an easily accessible commute from Southampton with a regular foot passenger ferry and BAE shuttle service from the ferry terminal to site.
