Offer description

Personal Assistant / Support Worker (Part-Time) Location: Aberystwyth area Hours: 8 hrs 15 mins worked flexibly (to be discussed) Rate of Pay: £15 per hour About the Role I am looking for a kind, reliable, and self-motivated Personal Assistant to support me in maintaining my independence at home and gradually increasing my confidence outside the home. This role is varied and would suit someone who is patient, encouraging, and able to work at a pace that feels comfortable while still providing gentle motivation. Key responsibilities: • Support to enable more regular showering (not full personal care, but assistance and encouragement) • Help with changing bedding and maintaining a clean-living environment • Assistance with some light household tasks related to my care that I am currently struggling with • Support with “life admin” tasks (e.g. organising paperwork, appointments, forms) o Encouragement and support to access the Community, starting with small outings such as going for a coffee and gradually building up to more social activities. • Assistance when out and about, including use of a wheelchair or mobility scooter • Accompanying me on gentle outings, including time in nature About Me: I live with complex physical and mental health conditions that can be quite debilitating. I can sometimes feel “stuck,” so I am looking for someone who is proactive and able to gently motivate and support me. I enjoy creative activities (especially crafts), nature, and—once I feel comfortable—can be quite sociable with a good sense of humour. However, I can find small talk overwhelming at first and may take time to build familiarity. I also experience anxiety, including agoraphobic tendencies, so patience and understanding are essential. I am currently awaiting an assessment related to autism, and at times when I feel overwhelmed, my tone of voice may change. I am aware of this and will always apologise, but it’s important that the right person can respond calmly and without judgement. About You • Patient, understanding, and non-judgemental • Self-motivated and able to encourage others positively • Reliable and consistent • Comfortable supporting someone with both physical and mental health challenges • Good organisational skills (for admin support) • Happy to support someone in the community, including use of mobility aids • Able to build trust over time and respect personal boundaries Safeguarding & Requirements • An enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is required for this role • References will be requested prior to employment • The successful applicant must understand the importance of safeguarding vulnerable adults and maintaining professional boundaries • Respect for privacy, dignity, and confidentiality is essential at all times • Any concerns regarding wellbeing or safety must be reported appropriately Desirable (but not essential) • Experience in care, support work, or mental health • Interest in creative activities or crafts • Understanding of anxiety, agoraphobia, or autism Disclaimer: This vacancy is being advertised on behalf of an individual employer. You must be eligible to work in the UK and your employer will conduct document checks prior to commencement. You will receive the appropriate annual leave entitlement as well as all other statutory entitlements, details of which will be set out in your contract of employment.
