What we’re looking for
To assess complex problems for internal / external naval clients where the parameters are not well defined and to determine solutions where previous experience does not provide any precedent.
Job Overview:
The Lloyd's Register Naval Centre of Expertise (NCoE) in Bristol provides a unique and essential service to Shipyards, Navies and LR colleagues worldwide, supporting the growth, development and delivery of the global LR Naval Business.
As a part of the NCoE, the Projects Team provides a technical consultancy service that supports the development, selection and application of standards and certification of naval vessels, particularly during the acquisition stages, for Naval Authorities, but also Shipyards, Designers and Acquisition Teams.
Within the UK, the NCoE is actively engaged in frameworks which provide support to the MoD through the Naval Design Partnering (NDP) and Engineering Design Partnering (EDP) contracts – these are focused on providing effective and responsive support to the MoD, particularly in the area of standards management and standards development, but also in the delivery of specialist engineering and core certification services.
Locally, and globally, the Projects Team provides high-quality and valued support to Navies, Shipyards and local LR Offices engaged in the procurement, construction and delivery of naval assets to Lloyd's Class. In particular, we have commenced engagement with a number of stakeholders on the future Hybrid Navy projects and will support these, and others, through to contract award and commencement over the next few years. This provides an opportunity to help shape and support critical decision-making processes early in the procurement cycle.
This role within the Projects Team will have responsibility for the management and delivery of complex and challenging tasks using a mix of skills and resources from within the candidates own skill set and capability but also from across the Lloyd’s Register Group or from within Industry Partners.
There is an increasing demand on the team to support the rapid development of the LR naval business; these opportunities will not always require standard classification solutions and the ability to combine and construct service offerings to suit the specific customer requirements will require innovative thinking and problem solving. It is expected that the candidate will contribute to this work and support the development and delivery of these tasks.
The candidate would also be expected to contribute to the work being done within the team, which includes support to the International Naval Safety Association (INSA), and the LR Naval Ship Technical Committee (NSTC), but also work being done on naval safety cases, and in the emerging area of autonomous vessel assurance. Where market requirements are identified the role will allow for similar opportunities to be identified and developed in the future in line with the candidates experience and interests.
The NCOE Projects Team provides a unique opportunity to develop and deliver service offerings to a range of naval stakeholders and has a reputation for doing so in an effective and efficient manner. The selected candidate will become part of a small team with a respected reputation for developing and delivering practical solutions to complex naval problems.
