Position Outline:
We are seeking a high calibre candidate who is highly motivated, creative and versatile. The Design Engineer will be responsible for designing all fixturing and special purpose machine equipment required by any of the production areas, incorporating both the St Asaph site & Qioptiq Space Technology. This position offers the opportunity to further develop your engineering design skills within a stimulated environment while engaging with a dedicated and professional team of Design Engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Proficient use of computer based mechanical design software (e.g. Creo, PDMLink)
2. Design tools, fixtures, cutters special packaging and gauges of a complex nature using computer aided design software, in an efficient and timely manner, in order to meet required quality standards at minimal cost.
3. Liaise with toolmakers to solve/ease manufacturing problems and to achieve delivery dates to customers.
4. Forge and maintain working relationships with all stakeholders and collaborate with them in order to ensure the correct product is delivered at the right time.
5. Select appropriate suppliers, request quotes and place orders, ensuring value for money at all times.
6. Carry out tooling audits and Internal concessions and deal with any quality issues when they arise.
7. Maintain and update standard tool lists in order tofacilitate stock control.
Personal Specification:
It is essential that all candidates shoulddemonstrate the following:
8. HNC in Mechanical/Production Engineeringor equivalent qualification.
9. Experienceworking with mechanical design software tools (e.g. Pro-Engineer Wildfire/Creo 3D Modelling, 2d detailing)
10. A good understanding of modern manufacturing processes, materials and design for manufacture principles.
11. An understanding of the Principles of Geometric Tolerancing and Dimensioning.
12. Experience of the design of high precision products and/or fixtures.
13. Excellent communication skills with high attention to detail.
14. Confidence in decision making and awareness of the impact of decisions.
15. Good team player with the added ability to work to tight deadlines.
16. A positive can-do attitude and the ability to realise and execute complex ideas.
17. Experience of using computer-based software such as Microsoft Office and AX.
The following would also be beneficial:
18. Knowledge of optics/metal manufacturing processes.
19. Knowledge of defence, aerospace, opto-mechanical assembliesand tool making industries.
20. Any other relevant manufacturing experience.
21. Experience of additive manufacturing processes and techniques.
