Products are designed and manufactured here in the UK and are exported throughout the world. Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role located in Hoddesdon Hertfordshire for an Electronics Engineer. The primary responsibilities include designing new and improving our existing scientific instruments. Although the role is largely in electronic design an appreciation of whole instrument product development is expected. Some understanding of physics in general would be an advantage so as to learn infrared (IR) measurement techniques using simple infra-red optics and gas circuits using pumps, solenoid valves and other pneumatic parts. Qualifications Proficiency in Electronic Engineering and Electronics, with a thorough understanding of electronic systems and components. Experience in Circuit Design and Testing, including the ability to design and optimise circuits and perform troubleshooting effectively. A proven record of product design in industry An understanding of A to D converters A degree or good qualification in a STEM subject or related field is desirable but not essential - Applicable experience may be a substitute. An experience of writing and debugging software, in particular ‘C’ Prior experience in developing scientific instruments or related products is an advantage. Understanding of DSP techniques would be an advantage Familiarity with serial interfaces such as I2C, SPI, USB, RS232 A general understanding of analogue circuitry Appreciation of mechanical aspect of design. The embedded language of FORTH has been extensively used on our instruments to date so familiarity with this language would be an advantage. The company is transitioning from the use of Forth to ‘C’ for the future. An understanding of low pressure gas circuits would be an advantage as the candidate will be expected to learn about infrared gas analysis design. This is a varied role, and us such the candidate must be willing to take on work that might be outside of any specialism the candidate may have. Candidates must be UK residents Salary £40k -£54k depending upon experience Employees work a 37hr week finishing early on Fridays.
