2026 Electro-Mechanical Engineering Degree Apprenticeship

The 2026 Electro-Mechanical Engineering Degree Apprenticeship role at WSP offers an opportunity to develop a full undergraduate degree in Electro‑Mechanical Engineering while working on a variety of projects across multiple sectors. As an apprentice you will join a global community of talented engineers, scientists, and advisors, receiving full training combined with real on‑the‑job learning.


Role Overview

As an Electro‑Mechanical Engineering Degree Apprentice in our Energy team in Birmingham you will support multi‑disciplinary services to deliver a net‑zero future. You will work on a range of projects supporting the full spectrum of power generation assets – from conventional base and peaking capability to renewable generation such as wind and solar. You will work with dynamic teams on day one, ask questions, look at problems from different angles, and help find solutions that break concepts.


Responsibilities

* Assist with design, analysis, and commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems on power generation projects.
* Contribute to project documentation, technical reports, and quality assurance activities.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver solutions that meet client requirements and sustainability targets.
* Apply engineering best practices and continually improve your technical and professional skills through blended learning.


Apprenticeship Details

You will start your Degree Apprenticeship in September 2026, attending the University of Nottingham for block placement and working towards achieving a full undergraduate degree in Electro‑Mechanical Engineering. The apprenticeship takes between 5–6 years to complete and includes an induction, training days, online content, on‑the‑job learning, and mentoring. You will also become registered with a relevant professional institution and may pursue chartership through our Professional Growth Network.


Qualifications

* 5 GCSEs (Grade C/Level 5 or above) including English, Maths and Science, or equivalent.
* Achieved or predicted A Level grades BBB, including Maths at A Level, or
* Achieved or predicted a BTEC Extended Diploma (Level 3) with grades DDM in an engineering‑related subject, including a further Maths component.

You don't need to submit a CV – just complete a short online application form. You will receive a confirmation email within 5 days of submission. If you meet the entry requirements, you will receive an online skills enablers assessment from our partner Artic Shores. Successful candidates may be shortlisted for an interview day or interview. Please note that not all candidates who pass the assessment will proceed to interview.
