Mainstone Practice is a long-established veterinary surgery in Romsey, proudly serving the local community for many years. We’re now looking for a confident Veterinary Surgeon to join our warm, supportive team and become part of a practice where relationships, continuity of care and teamwork genuinely matter.
Responsibilities
* Handle a varied caseload primarily consisting of cats and dogs, with rabbits, small furries and occasional wildlife cases (e.g., hedgehogs, birds of prey).
* Split time between consultations and surgery with a well-balanced mix of clinical work.
* Manage routine as well as orthopaedic cases and occasional ECC to ensure clinical variety.
* Occasional sole-charge work requiring independent decision-making.
* Work pattern: full-time 40 hours per week, 8:30am–7:00pm, one in five Saturday mornings 8:30am–12:30pm; no out-of-hours work; part-time applications considered for the right candidate.
Clinical Standards and Environment
We’ve invested in high-quality facilities to support patient care, including multiparameter monitoring in theatre and dental, Doppler blood pressure monitoring, syringe drivers, infusion pumps, IDEXX in-house lab equipment, a floating X-ray table, and a dedicated dental suite with dental radiography. We hold Silver Cat Friendly status with dedicated cat-only clinic times to ensure a calm experience for feline patients.
Practice Design and Facilities
Set in a charming barn conversion, the practice offers a welcoming environment with a bright reception area, separate cat and dog waiting spaces, three consultation rooms including a dedicated RVN consult room, a prep area with theatre, a dental suite with dental X-ray, a separate X-ray room, cattery and kennels, a quiet vet office for admin time, a fully equipped laboratory, a relaxing staff area and on-site parking. A nearby garden provides breaks and there is generous on-site parking.
Team and Development
You’ll join a friendly and experienced team of six vets, six RVNs and a dedicated client care team. We have certificates in ophthalmology and ECC and support vets pursuing further certificates. As an RVN training practice, learning and development are integral to our culture.

We are rooted in the Romsey community, with involvement in events such as Romsey Show and Dogstival, visits to local schools, open days, and supporting community events like the New Forest Show. Romsey offers a mix of countryside living and modern conveniences, with access to the New Forest National Park, and proximity to Southampton and Winchester.
