The SEN Project Officer is a vital part of the statutory SEN Team. They support the service
in providing high level quality and comprehensive business support services to the SEN
Team, Operational & strategic Management of the Service so that the service can fulfil its
statutory duties in relation to maintaining the EHC Plans of pupils with special educational
needs by ensuring the efficient and effective implementation of statutory procedures and the
appropriate placement and ongoing provision arrangements for Enfield residing pupils both
inside and outside the LA area. They can follow standard operating procedures with limited
supervision and should actively champion continuous improvement and the implementation
of automation and efficient ways of working. The SEN Project Officer will work closely with
families and service providers to support the development and maintenance of coproduced
practice standards, assist with training, development and workforce planning.

Duties

To provide the organisation and administrative support
to the SEND Service Manager and Head of SEND on
key projects that the SEN Service are undertaking.

2. Support colleagues by contributing to the development
of an efficient and effective team.

3. Having a training and development role within the
team to support the SEN Manager and other team
managers within SEN in an induction programme for
new recruits. To organise trainers & attendees, venues
and schedule sessions for virtual training.

4. To coordinate and implement a continuous programme
of induction and training for the whole service,
including keeping training records, scheduling training
events, external trainers and staff development days.

5. To be the first responder of for any Freedom of
Information & Subject Access Requests.

6. To take the lead on the development of letter
templates, under the supervision of the SEND Service
Manager, to be used by all members of the service
ensuring that they are legally compliant and
compatible with system requirements. To regularly
check that these meet the needs of the team and
amend where appropriate.

7. To take the lead on the development of key service
documentation, under the supervision of the SEND
Service Manager, to ensure that they are fit for
purpose, simple and avoid duplication. To regularly
check that these meet the needs of the team and
amend where appropriate. To coordinate working
parties and focus groups to ensure documentation is
coproduced.

8. To take ‘bullet minutes’ that involve recording key
action points at whole service meetings, development
days and operational and strategic managers
meetings.

9. To provide ‘duty’ support cover to the administrative
functions of the team, providing cover for Business
Support & Case Officers during unforeseen periods of
leave.

10. Oversee requests for mediation and pre-meetings,
coordinating so that they are directed to the relevant
team leader or manager. Keep a record of requests
received for mediation and the reason, as well as the
outcome and coordinate follow up actions.

11. Communicate effectively and positively with parents,
young people, schools and professionals.

12. Organise and prioritise allocated workload as
appropriate, keeping team managers aware of
demands which may impact on targets/deadlines and

13. Proactively develop skills, understanding and abilities
in delivering support services to carry out standardised
processes in a consistent and efficient manner.

14. Supporting the post-14 Team Leader with the setting
up of the Post-16 phased transfer data base,
monitoring officer actions as necessary.

15. Maintain an up to date knowledge relating to SEN
casework, including changes to national legislation
and departmental policies

16. To attend relevant and local training as directed by
service leads as part of a role induction and
continuous professional development.

17. To attend and contribute to working parties to review,
develop and improve procedures.

18. Maintain accurate IT systems, including local and
corporate IT systems, spreadsheets, databases and
text files. To be able to produce appropriate outputs,
e.g. reports. Ensure that systems are clearly and
consistently updated with all relevant information in a
timely manner.

19. To champion and be an advocate for the use of
technology (such as the case management system) to
record, track and monitor our ways of working to both
manage performance and inform business intelligence

20. Ensure that client confidentiality is maintained in line
with the Council’s policies.

21. Any other duties reasonably requested by
management

22. Carry out all accountabilities in compliance with the
Council’s Policies and Procedures
