Overview
Day-to-day management of general surgical patients under general surgery. Conducting clinics for out-patients under the supervision of a Consultant General Surgeon. Undertake theatre lists on general surgical patients under the supervision of a Consultant Surgeon. The post-holders are expected to participate in the management of the department, ensuring deputising arrangements when necessary, and supervising the day-to-day clinical work of the junior staff in the department. The post-holders are encouraged to pursue research projects which will lead to publication of scientific papers. The post-holders are expected to be committed to maintaining a high standard of note-keeping and communication with General Practitioners. They will be involved in preparing information for entry to the hospital\'s Clinical Information System and in preparing Discharge Summaries of patients under the care of the consultant for whom they are working at the time. Any other duties commensurate with the grade which may be allocated from time to time.
Main duties
Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management and care given of patients. Day to day management of surgical patients under the Consultant General Surgeon\'s care. To undertake theatre lists on surgical patients under the supervision of a Consultant General Surgeon. To be part of the 1 in 10 week on-call rota. Assisting with teaching and training of junior staff and medical students. To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit. To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
