We have secured a new framework with Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water that will last up to eight years, enabling MMB to tackle projects across the DCC region covering clean and wastewater treatment sites, below‑ground assets, reservoirs and nature‑based solutions. Our presence in Wales has grown significantly, directly employing over 270 colleagues in the country across all roles, from frontline construction to design and management.
You will play a pivotal role in shaping structural functions throughout the lifecycle of various projects—from concept design to commissioning—ensuring all civil aspects are meticulously considered and integrated.
Responsibilities
* Preparing and reviewing designs for schemes and ensuring all designs are fit for purpose and meet current legislation and standards.
* Preparing detailed structural calculations, drawings, specifications and reports.
* Conducting site inspections and assessing existing structures for repair and/or replacement.
* Producing and reviewing technical specifications and schedules for procurement activities, reviewing supplier tender bids and technical submissions.
* Understanding, applying and contributing to design standards with a good knowledge of client and industry standards.
* Ability to appropriately challenge client specifications and present and defend solutions to complex problems.
* Identifying opportunities to improve delivery processes including development and implementation of standard designs, sustainable solutions and digital tools.
* Acting as technical checker on project documents and undertaking technical reviews for projects across teams.
* Managing the interfaces and integration of the design with that of other disciplines and production of documentation.
* Actively seeking input from other engineers, specialists, client and project team members to improve understanding and deliver fit‑for‑purpose solutions.
* Working closely and collaboratively with the commercial, operational and construction teams to develop efficient, practical and safe solutions throughout design stages, construction and beyond.
* Supervising and mentoring graduates and engineers, assisting them to develop their knowledge and skills.
* Positively engaging with the client, managing relationships and adopting a one‑team approach to support them in achieving their aims.
* Undertaking site reviews to ensure buildability of solutions and integration within the existing systems.
Requirements
* Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or related field.
* Chartered member of a professional institution (e.g. ICE, IMechE) or equivalent experience.
* Experience with water, wastewater, non‑infrastructure or infrastructure projects.
* Knowledge of relevant design codes and standards (e.g. Eurocodes, British Standards).
* Proficient in structural analysis software (e.g. Staad Pro, ETABS, SAP2000).
* Experience of successfully delivering high‑quality outputs in accordance with design, quality and safety standards.
* Ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
* Methodical approach to problem solving.
* Proactive and pragmatic approach.
* Ability to deliver results within short timeframes, prioritising tasks and managing time efficiently.
* Valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites.

This is a Mott MacDonald Bentley role, employed by Mott MacDonald. Mott MacDonald Bentley is a joint venture business, established in 1999 between civil engineering contractor JN Bentley and global management consultancy, Mott MacDonald.
This role is employed by Mott MacDonald but will involve working across the joint venture business, both with Mott MacDonald and JN Bentley colleagues.
