Main purpose of the job
The Grade 1 Student Development Assistant is a member of a team responsible for the education and care of children at Redden Court School. They contribute to the teaching and learning programme aligned with the school's ethos, aims, and objectives.
The role involves supporting student aspirations, challenging learning, and engaging students in their own learning. The Teacher and the Grade 1 Student Development Assistant work as partners to facilitate access to the curriculum and promote independence.
The Assistant supports the school under the supervision of the Headteacher, Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion, and relevant Heads of Faculty/class teachers. Supervision is typically at the task level, especially for students in the ARP and Alternative Key Stage 4 curriculum.
The Assistant acts as a liaison between an assigned faculty and the SEN faculty to ensure effective communication.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Support for students:
Provide individual attention, reassurance, and assistance based on students' needs as per their IEPs. Support specific needs—physical, emotional, behavioral. Escort students on/off premises as directed, support curriculum access, and help students work independently. Deliver targeted literacy, numeracy, SPAG, handwriting, speech, and language programs. Manage behavior within school policies. Ensure health, safety, and security. Provide intimate care as required.
* Support for the teacher(s):
Assist in differentiating instructions and resources, prepare materials, help with equipment, maintain student records, and promote positive behavior. Support order and discipline, report behavioral issues and Child Protection concerns.
* Support for the school/faculty:
Attend meetings, assist during assessments and exams, share expertise, support student progress documentation, and foster positive relationships with parents and external agencies. Report communication difficulties.
* Support for the curriculum:
Assist with curriculum plans, use of ICT, monitor student responses, value cultural diversity, encourage self-help, and motivate students. Supervise targeted students during breaks as directed.
