About the job.

National Highways is excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Project Manager to help shape our vast operational roadside technology estate in the South East.

You’ll manage a portfolio of projects focused on the systems and infrastructure that keep our roads moving – maintaining and enhancing the roadside technologies that are crucial to protecting road users, supporting our control centres, and improving the experience of every customer who travels on our motorways and major A-roads.

With over £60 million of operational traffic technology assets at the heart of our network – from signs and signals to CCTV and detection systems – your expertise will drive accountability and excellence through every phase of the project lifecycle, helping to ensure millions of journeys remain safe, smooth and reliable.

This role can be based from our Guildford, Basingstoke or Maidstone office.

1. Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with the Regional Management Team, Programme Delivery Managers, key stakeholders, suppliers and across National Highways teams. Ensure mutual understanding of the portfolio’s strategic and delivery objectives, to review and report on delivery performance, to agree solutions that resolve complex issues and to prepare project business cases.
2. Programme management, financial reporting and risk management against the capital expenditure budgets for all projects in scope, ensuring effective financial and contractual practices are in place and adhered to by all project resources.
3. Ensure National Highways reputation is maintained throughout delivery of projects by delivering best practice customer and stakeholder communications. Proactively manage interaction with communities, stakeholders, transport operators, road users and businesses.
4. Proactively identify and drive opportunities for improvements and implement required changes in own area of responsibility; champion and share portfolio management best practices across Operations.
5. Manage and evaluate risks, issues, dependencies and constraints associated with the portfolio, leading the development and implementation of solutions to overcome these.

About you.

6. Recognised qualification in relevant engineeringdiscipline and/or with relevant experience in the delivery of Technology, Mechanical and Electrical projects and portfolios.
7. Proven portfolio and project management experience (related qualifications (. MSP, APM, Prince2) is desirable.
8. Evidence of contract management with specific experience of NEC 4 forms of contract.
9. Good understanding of relevant legislation and technical standards.
10. Excellent stakeholder management.

All to make sure National Highways customers have safer, smoother, and more reliable journeys.

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
