We are looking for Transport Shift Managers to join our team.
The Shift Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of Operations Team Leaders and the wider Warehouse Ops Team Members on their shift. Working in close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Shift Pattern – Monday to Thursday 6am to 6pm week 1, Tuesday to Friday 6pm to 6am week 2
How will you contribute?
* Reporting to the Operations Manager
* A 48-hour basic week, compromising of a detailed pre shift & end of shift handovers. Additional shift working may be required in peak seasons.
* To plan the development of the Warehouse team to ensure that, as an operation, we have the appropriate skill base and that at our individual team members have the appropriate development plans.
* To manage the operation within specified budgetary targets.
* Identify new initiatives that enhance the operation and that add value, whilst identifying possible cost reduction initiatives.
* Introduce clear and robust processes on site that continuously improve the operational team whilst working towards implementation of a “right first time” culture.
* Manage all contracts when on shift, ensuring each achieves their operational & Key Performance Indicators.
* Responsible for the entire site out of office hours & communicate as per the business continuity plan.
* Ensure all shift colleagues are trained & signed off as per the sites policies, procedures & processes.
* Drive accountability on their shift & those within their team.
* Create a culture where Health & Safety is paramount.
* Provide root cause analysis for all near misses, incidents & accidents on shift.
* Review risk assessments & SSOW as part of the H&S investigation process, delivering an environment of continuous improvement on shift.
* Work within legislation, ensuring the shift & therefore the site are compliant.
* Support the company & site initiatives & implement on shift.
* Capture all hours worked, for all employees on shift, within the required timelines for the internal customers.
* Accurately detail all hours worked, by contract & by task type, for timely reporting to our customers.
* Quantify all variances to Key Performance Indictors – positive & negative.
* Understand the root cause of all negative results & formulate & execute plans to address.
* Working with HR and Health and Safety to ensure all recruitment, inductions & training is delivered in accordance with Policy & procedure.
* Ensure meaningful performance reviews are delivered within the agreed time frames.
* Working with HR to identify talent through the review process & create succession plans for their shift & the site.
* Develop a skills matrix for their shift to provide depth of cover, interfaces with the succession plan & aligns with peak volume requirements.
* Manage absence, sickness & holidays, conduct & performance in line with Company Policies & Procedures.
* Demonstrate professionalism to your internal & external customers through acting on queries in a prompt manner & ensuring communication is comprehensive.
* Produce a daily end of shift handover analysing your shifts position & performance, detailing the plan for the next shift.

* Possess good analytical skills to identify optimum solutions to meet the operations’ financial targets.
* Possess excellent organizational, problem solving & decision-making skills.
* Be able to provide commitment to delivering consistent quality & service.
* Must demonstrate the ability to communicate with & influence individuals at all levels within the business in an open & honest manner, including the customer.
* Ensure that the customer’s expectations & KPIs are delivered.
* Be able to carry out analysis to develop action plans to improve service level performance.
* Demonstrate excellent leadership & team building skills, developing productive working relationships.
* Ability to deliver consistent performance without detriment to Health & Safety or quality requirements.
* The successful candidate must have an excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel, with previous experience of in-house warehouse management systems.
* Be able to develop the team into a self-managing unit which can and will perform at the highest operational performance.
* Possess a Health & Safety mindset that can deliver cultural changes and not afraid of challenging the status quo.
