The Opportunity
Inclusive design reflects the diversity of our communities and allows people to experience and access buildings, environments, and facilities in an equal manner. We go beyond a narrow view of physical access to consider how the spaces in which we live, work and play can feel for different people to use: an access ramp at the back of the building, away from the entrance, may be physically accessible, but an automatic sliding door that allows everyone to access the building through the same entry point is inclusive. Providing faith facilities, or toilets for diverse gender identities helps recognise the diversity of people using a space and can create an environment that delights its users. We work with the design team to identify barriers and provide recommendations that maximise opportunities for inclusion and future‑proof the design to proactively adapt to changing demographics and socio‑economic scenarios.
You’ll help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high‑profile clients both in the UK and internationally. While you’ll have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we’ll give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills. You will gain the expertise necessary to become an Access and Inclusive Design Consultant, by working with your team to learn about inclusive design, develop skills and apply them to your own projects.
You will also have the opportunity to conduct research and attend courses and conferences to develop your own thought leadership on inclusive design.
