Design Manager - Tier 1 Main Contractor - Central London

A leading Tier 1 main contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager to join a flagship £200m commercial cut-and-carve development in Central London, with completion scheduled for the end of 2027
This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a high-performing project team delivering a complex refurbishment and redevelopment scheme on one of Londons most prominent high streets. The successful candidate will initially take responsibility for the management of the remaining steelwork and structural frame packages before moving onto the delivery of significant architectural metalwork and high-end interior packages, including the atrium, stairs, cores, stone finishes, and reception areas.
Reporting into the Senior Design Manager, you will play a key role in driving the design process, coordinating consultants and specialist subcontractors, and ensuring information is delivered in line with programme requirements. You will also be responsible for managing and mentoring a Design Coordinator and Trainee Design Coordinator, helping to develop the wider design team.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the design process across multiple construction packages from technical design through to delivery.
* Coordinate consultants, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
* Review and challenge design information to ensure buildability, quality, and programme compliance.
* Lead design workshops and drive resolution of technical and design-related issues.
* Identify risks and opportunities within the design and construction process.
* Manage and support junior members of the design team.
Candidate Requirements
* Proven experience as a Design Manager within a main contractor environment.
* Strong technical understanding of construction, detailing, and package management.
* Experience delivering complex commercial, mixed-use, or large-scale refurbishment projects.
* Confident managing challenging consultant teams and driving decisions independently.
* Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
* Ability to work proactively with minimal supervision on a major project.
