Overview
A fantastic opportunity is available for an enthusiastic and responsible Senior Gardener / Amenity Team Leader for the grounds and parkland at a private garden near Andover. It is an exciting chance to contribute to a garden that is both an existing landscape and a new project, with work to bring selected elements back into shape. The role sits within the wider garden team under the leadership of the Head Gardener.
Responsibilities
* Manage the day-to-day operations of the grounds, arboretum, paddocks and parkland areas.
* Lead and develop a small team (typically three gardeners) and liaise with external contractors for specialist horticultural or maintenance projects.
* Maintain lawns and landscapes throughout the year, including mowing, stripes, aeration, topdressing, scarifying, and pest & disease control.
* Gain a working understanding of tools and machinery for day-to-day grounds management and keep up-to-date records and daily diaries.
* Support the maintenance of all garden and parkland areas, with a focus on high standards for the main garden and parkland.
* Be willing to undertake training and hold qualifications in the safe use of pesticides (PA1 and PA6A).
* Adhere to Health and Safety Regulations, environmental management, manual handling and risk assessment.
* Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work as part of a team with a valid driving licence.
* Be flexible and willing to assist the broader team during busy periods.
Qualifications and Experience
* Proven leadership and team management experience in horticulture or a related field.
* Strong lawncare management experience and/or arboricultural knowledge, including parkland and lake management, tree care, and formal/semi-formal grassland management.
* Experience in a leading private or public garden at high standards.
* Willingness to undertake training as required; PA1 and PA6A qualifications preferred or to be obtained.
* Extensive experience with horticultural machinery and equipment is advantageous.
* Valid driving licence; flexibility to support the team as needed.
Benefits and Details
* Location: Near Andover, Wiltshire.
* Salary: Circa £40,000 DOE plus accommodation (where applicable).
* Accommodation can be provided depending on circumstances – to be discussed.
