Lead, Language Programme - Volunteer
Lead, Language Programme - Volunteer at Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees.
As the Language Programme Lead, you will develop and deliver tailored language learning plans for refugees from Syria, Afghanistan, and Ukraine. This role is crucial in promoting independence and successful integration into society.
Impact and Reward
In this role you will empower refugees to achieve greater independence and integration in their new communities. You will help our refugee beneficiaries gain the language skills, confidence, and vocational training necessary to navigate daily life, access employment opportunities, and participate fully in society. Some refugees will find this genuinely life‑changing.

* Experience delivering language, vocational, and employment support.
* Strong leadership and coordination skills, especially with volunteers.
* Skilled in creating and reviewing individual language or integration plans.
* Confident in engaging and collaborating with stakeholders (councils, education providers, networks).
* Minimum three years’ ESOL experience with knowledge of Trinity ESOL, IELTS, and assessment tools.
* Ability to design and monitor holistic integration and independence plans.
* Experience in initial assessments and tailored support planning.
* Committed to training and supporting language volunteers.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills.
* Culturally sensitive, empathetic, and committed to refugee well‑being.

Key Responsibilities
* Manage the delivery of differentiated language support tailored to the individual needs of each refugee through a team of around 30 motivated language volunteers.
* Be actively involved in recruiting new language volunteers as required.
* Oversee training of language volunteers and promote best practices across the programme group.
* Arrange for initial assessments on the arrival of all new families and produce suitable teaching programmes that coordinate with other family support services.
* Participate as a member of the Volunteer Leadership Team to provide effective overall support for our refugee beneficiaries.
* Liaise with key stakeholders such as Kent County Council, Kent Adult Education, and the newly established Kent ESOL Networking Group to maintain good relationships that support the provision of our language programme.
Qualifications
A working knowledge of ESOL and associated exams and qualifications would be beneficial. A driver’s licence and access to a car would be extremely useful, given the geographical spread of the beneficiaries in the wider Sevenoaks area. This is not a role that can be performed online.
