What you need to know about the role
In this role you will be the ‘go-to’ local expert providing technical environmental support to our Steelmaking area to deliver on the business environmental objectives through the implementation of environmental targets. This is a fantastic opportunity for an Environmental professional to take their career to the next level supporting our Steelmaking team within a complex and heavily regulated site.
You will be key to supporting Steelmaking deliver compliance against a wide range of environment legislation, especially on air, water, waste and Environmental Permitting topics.
Working closely with the Plant Management team and Central Environment Department you will develop and maintain sustainable solutions for Steelmaking wastes, and to pursue continuous environmental improvement initiatives using appropriate tools and techniques.
Leading and participating in investigating environmental issues and incidents – both on a proactive and reactive basis – to secure cost effective compliance and continuous environmental improvement for the company. Being the custodian of the plants environmental management systems to ensure implementation of the company environmental policy, legal compliance and continuous environmental improvement in the Steelmaking area. You will also deliver Environmental Training and education tailored to help our operations team deliver compliance against a wide range of legal requirements.
What we need to know about you
We are looking for someone with working knowledge of UK and European environmental legislation particularly in the areas of air and water emissions and waste management.
Experience of working with or on regulated sites along with a working knowledge of Environmental Management Systems is essential for the role.
The ability to work to highly demanding deadlines is a prerequisite along with excellent communication and presentation skills.
Competence in Microsoft packages, particularly Word and Power point.
