About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our supportive secondary school team in Wythenshawe. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled professional with extensive experience working with students on the Autism Spectrum (ASC) to make a meaningful difference in young people's educational journey.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide specialist one-to-one and small group support for students with ASC aged 11-16
* Implement individualised learning strategies and behaviour support plans
* Support students with social communication, sensory needs, and transitions
* Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals to ensure inclusive education
* Assist with curriculum delivery and adapt resources to meet diverse learning needs
* Monitor and record student progress, contributing to reviews and assessments
* Support students during unstructured times including break and lunch periods
* Promote independence and self-advocacy skills
Essential Requirements
* High level of experience working with young people with Autism Spectrum Conditions
* Demonstrated understanding of ASC characteristics and effective support strategies
* Experience working in secondary education settings (preferred)
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations
* Flexibility and adaptability to meet individual student needs
* Commitment to inclusive education and student wellbeing
Desirable Qualifications
* Relevant qualification in Special Educational Needs or Autism support
* Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification
* Training in positive behaviour support or therapeutic approaches
* Experience with PECS, Makaton, or other communication systems
* Knowledge of current SEN legislation and best practices
