SP Energy Networks (SPEN) will be delivering £5.4bn of investment in the Transmission network over the next 5 years. As part of this, SPT Strategic Projects will be delivering a £3bn portfolio of new overhead lines and new and upgraded substations, including design, engineering, construction and electrical works.

The Data Model Specialist is a critical role within SPT Strategic Projects, they shape and manage the data architecture that underpins the successful delivery of major capital projects.

As an integral member of the multi-disciplinary PMO team the Data Model Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust data models that so that high‑quality, well‑structured data is available for reporting, analytics, and decision‑making across the Strategic Projects portfolio.

The successful candidate will contribute to the broader solution architecture and bridge the gap between technical data management and the business processes underpinning project delivery and controls, ensuring data integrity, consistency, and accessibility across all project phases to support the successful delivery of high‑impact major projects.


What you’ll be doing

In this position, you can expect to:

* Design, build and maintain scalable, flexible, and integrated data models to support the full lifecycle of capital projects and key PMO functions such as planning & scheduling, cost management, risk management, change management, commercial management, and governance and reporting.
* Collaborate with reporting and PowerBI teams to make structured, reliable data available for reporting and ensure data models are optimized for use in dashboards, KPIs, and advanced analytics, including transformation and integration of complex datasets.
* Work collaboratively with Project Managers, Delivery and Development teams, Engineering, Commercial, Finance, IT, external partners and other stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver fit‑for‑purpose solutions.
* Interpret, document, and translate reporting and controls needs into engineered datasets to provide reporting on performance and identify insights on emerging issues.
* Establish and maintain data governance processes to ensure data accuracy, consistency and security, and lead data quality initiatives and resolve data‑related issues across teams and systems.
* Contribute to the design of end‑to‑end data and digital solutions that integrate with project management systems (e.g., Oracle Primavera, SAP, Power BI, Cost, Risk and Contract management tools).
* Contribute to the development of PMO maturity and digital transformation towards a data‑driven culture by supporting the rollout of best practices.
* Create and maintain data flow diagrams and data dictionaries to improve data accessibility and reliability.


What you’ll bring

* Demonstratable experience in data modelling and engineering including data ingestion, integration, orchestration and ETL pipeline development (e.g. Azure Synapse, Delta Parquet) along with proficiency in business intelligence and visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI).
* Experience delivering solutions using the Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver and Gold layers) and designing and implementing Dimensional data models (e.g. Star Schema).
* Knowledgeable in database design, computer file structures, cloud‑based and ERP systems.
* Understanding of large‑scale capital projects processes and PMO functions.
* Strong technical data and analytics skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
* Project management and organisational skills.
* Creative problem solving and innovative thinking.
* Adaptability to change.
* Ability to learn quickly.
* Ability and desire to work in a team environment.
* Confidence to challenge and question where appropriate.
* Leadership capabilities demonstrated through projects, volunteering and/or work experiences.

To be successful, you will have to demonstrate (as a minimum):

* Degree‑qualified in a relevant discipline (e.g., Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science or Project Management) or equivalent relevant experience.
* Experience enabling data for reporting and analytics platforms.
* Advanced proficiency in IT systems, including Microsoft Office Suite, Azure and Power BI, with a strong understanding of integrating complex data models from various digital tools (e.g. P6 Primavera, SAP, etc).
* Understanding of data structures and tools that support performance dashboards and KPIs (e.g. relational and dimensional data models, data integration and ETL tools).
* Knowledge of data governance principles, data quality management, and metadata management.
* Clear and concise communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex information to technical and non‑technical stakeholders at all levels.
