Overview
The Junior Clinical Fellow (JCF) will support Foundation Year 1 trainees on the morning ward round and cover urgent referrals from the Emergency Department. The JCF will also assist the general surgery team in theatres and clinics, participate in audits and present monthly complication rates at the General Surgery M&M meeting.
Responsibilities
* Caring for ward patients and supporting FY1 trainees during morning ward rounds.
* Covering urgent referrals from the Emergency Department and supporting the Urgent Care Centre.
* Assisting the general surgery team with theatre and clinic duties as appropriate.
* Participating in on‑going audits and monthly presentations of complication rates.

1:12 on call Surgical Rota Nights /Weekend days/Weekend nights
* 1:8 rolling pattern for CEPOD theatre, trauma theatre and emergency ward support.
* Allocated to theatre, colorectal or upper GI ward rounds and outpatient sessions each week.
Teaching, research & audit
The successful candidate will help the Specialist Registrars run the day‑to‑day activities, supervise pre‑registration house officers where possible, and be involved in teaching medical students. Several research projects are in progress and there are ample opportunities for presentation and publication of case reports. JCFs will be encouraged to carry out audit projects with support from the audit department and must attend regular department audit sessions.
Study leave & training
This post is not recognised by the London Deanery as a training post, but facilities for study leave exist. The post includes access to a large medical library and a range of postgraduate courses: clinical tutor‑led lectures, weekly physician and surgeon meetings, orthopaedic tutorials, audit meetings and surgical techniques workshops.
