Trust Medical SDEC Registrar

We require registrar grade Resident Doctors to work in the medical Same Day Emergency Care Medicine Department at Gloucestershire Royal & Cheltenham General Hospital. Post-holders will rotatebetween both sites. These posts are not recognised for training but will offer a good experience ingeneral and acute medicine. The posts are initially for 12 months.These posts offer excellent experience within the medical same day emergency department in bothsites, seeing patients with a variety of presentations. A normal day is expected to be 9-5.These posts are very suitable for resident doctors who have completed IMT training and are consideringor have already been taking a career break (e.g., to go travelling) before joining a formal specialisttraining programme.You will be given a protected 1 day a month to pursue another interest e.g. specialty clinics etc. You willalso have a half day per week for non-clinical work such as QI, audit to improve the SDEC and to furtheryour career development.
Out of Hours Work & Weekend WorkThere would be an expectation to undertake out of hours and weekend work. This is likely to average outwith 1 long day a week and 1 weekend every 6 weeks. Normal days will be 9-5, with some days from11-7. There will not be any night shifts, making this an attractive option for those looking for a better work- life balance.

The post is based on our Acute Medical Units and offers excellent experience in all aspects of acute medicine including Same Day Emergency Care. We see a wide range of conditions offering great exposure to Cardiology, Renal Medicine, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Respiratory Medicine, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Care of the Elderly and Stroke, with excellent in-reach from the afore mentioned specialties.

Job responsibilities
We wish to appoint new Trust Grade Registrar (ST3+) colleague to join our expanding Acute Medicine service at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHNHSFT).

The post will also include full on calls on the medical SpR rota

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full General Medical Council registration.
* MRCP (or equivalent)
* ALS or Equivalent
* Point of care ultrasound
* Peer reviewed publications
Experience
* Proven procedural competence in line with IMT3 curriculum
* Experience in independently managing medical admissions - i.e. running the acute unselected take
* Ability to work closely with colleagues in Acute Medicine and Emergency Medicine and other specialities
* Experience of MDT working including complex discharge planning
* Independent in the following procedures: Lumbar Puncture, Seldinger Chest Drains and Ascitic Drains.
* Experience of working in Same Day Emergency Care
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
Essential Management & Administrative skills:
* Familiar with clinical governance
* A willingness to accept responsibility and provide leadership.
* Experience of clinical governance. Eg, Quality improvement, Audit, Morbidity and Mortality review.
* Experience of service development
* Awareness of current relevant developments within the wider NHS
