Specialist Screening Practitioner
Closing date: 14 June 2026.
Location: The University Hospital North Midlands, Royal Stoke Hospital site, with cross‑site working at County Hospital.
Hours: Service operates 5 days per week with occasional weekend work; this may expand to 7‑day working as the programme grows.
Main duties of the job
* Registered general nurse with proven post‑registration experience.
* Experience or described knowledge of bowel cancer screening, gastroenterology, endoscopy, and pre‑assessment.
* Good IT skills for daily data entry into national Bowel Cancer Screening Programme databases.
Job responsibilities
You will manage your own caseload of patients, leading nurse‑led clinics, conducting patient assessment, providing information, and supporting patients undergoing endoscopic or radiological investigations.
You will communicate and collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team and support Inequality work within the Trust and community settings. The post holder will assist in meeting national and Trust targets for the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
Training will include the Bowel Cancer Screening IT system and the mandatory NHS BCSP Bowel Cancer Screening Practitioner Programme. Full preceptorship and training are provided.
Person Specification
* 12 months of post‑qualification nursing experience.
* Experience within endoscopy and gastroenterology.
* Experience within a cancer service or ward.
* Evidence of more than 12 months post‑qualification nursing experience.
Knowledge & qualifications
* Evidence of knowledge of the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
* Evidence of completion of communication training courses.
* Evidence of teaching in small or large groups.
* Evidence of degree, masters, or equivalent.
* Knowledge of MDT meetings.
* Knowledge of PGDs.

Salary
£39,959 to £48,117 per annum, pro rata.
