About the role
We are recruiting Drainage Engineers to work in 2‑person teams covering Sussex on a Southern Water contract. You will travel to residential sites, repair and maintain drainage systems, install patch liners, use the Picote system to remove obstructions, survey drainage networks, produce high‑quality reports with state‑of‑the‑art equipment, record job details, deliver good customer service, and maintain health and safety practices.
Responsibilities
* Travel to residential sites via a specially equipped van in a two‑person team around the region.
* Repair and maintain drainage systems, installing patch liners to carry out first‑time‑fix sewer and drain repair.
* Utilise the Picote system to remove scale, roots, concrete, and other hard obstructions that high‑pressure water jetting systems can’t remove.
* Survey the network of drainage systems and assess pipe conditions to produce high quality reports with the help of state‑of‑the‑art drain surveying equipment.
* Record each job report correctly on the specialist equipment provided.
* Deliver good customer service.
* Maintain good H&S practice while carrying out works.
* Ensure vehicle stock is full and replenished.
* Comply with health and safety responsibilities such as PPE, safe site set‑ups, protecting Lanes Group employees, the public, and other road users.
* Utilise VISTEC and Salesforce platforms.
* Liaise with the client regarding progress and any updates.
* Work unsupervised in all weather conditions utilising correct PPE, lone worker system, etc.
* Dynamically risk assess site access & working conditions depending on specific circumstances on arrival.
* Provide support to your colleagues.
* Conduct thorough inspections of tools, equipment and plant before/after use.
* Report any defects or malfunctions in regard to training.
* Carry out risk assessments and adopt a mature approach to risk perception.
* Be aware of all Lanes Group policies and your responsibility towards them.
* Work flexible hours, weekends, and participate in an on‑call rota.
* Receive full training, PPE, and use of company equipment.
* Any other reasonable ad‑hoc duties requested by management.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be hardworking, respectful, and compliant with health and safety standards. Experience in the use of high‑pressure jetting equipment is useful but not essential, as is Confined Space Entry training (AP2). Other drainage qualifications such as NRSWA or OS19X are an advantage.
