Major Trauma Advanced Practitioner

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Advanced Practitioner to join the Major Trauma team at the Greater Manchester Major Trauma Hospital (GMMTH), based at Salford Royal. This is an exciting opportunity to work within one of the UK's leading Level 1 Major Trauma Centres, delivering high‑quality care to patients with complex and life‑threatening injuries.
The post holder will work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary Major Trauma team, providing advanced clinical assessment, decision‑making and coordination of care for patients admitted to the Major Trauma wards. The role spans the entire patient pathway, supporting patients from initial admission through to recovery, rehabilitation planning and discharge.
Responsibilities
- Working alongside consultant surgeons, physicians, specialty teams, nursing staff, therapists, and the Major Trauma coordination team to ensure timely assessment and safe patient flow.
- Delivering high‑quality documentation and ensuring adherence to national Major Trauma standards, including tertiary surveys and rehabilitation planning.
- Co‑ordinating care across the entire patient pathway, from admission to discharge.
- Contributing to service development, education, research, and quality improvement within a dynamic and supportive team environment.
- Leading and mentoring AHPs and other clinicians as appropriate.
Professional Registration
- Current NMC registration (first level nurse) or HPC registration for physiotherapist or occupational therapist.
Qualifications
- MSc Advanced Clinical Practice.
- Non‑medical prescriber.
Knowledge, Training and Experience
- Effective communicator capable of conveying complex and highly sensitive information.
- Evidence of managing own clinical case load autonomously.
- Experience within an acute specialty.
- Experience within an acute major trauma specialty/environment.
- Evidence of involvement in policy and practice change.
- Evidence of proactive involvement in the mentorship and development of AHPs and clinical practice.
Skills and Abilities
- Highly developed specialist knowledge and expertise across a wide range of medical conditions, underpinned by theory and continued professional development.
- Demonstrates assertiveness, tact and diplomacy appropriately.
