Overview

We have a new Community Mental Health Occupational Therapist vacancy. We are looking for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the team at South West Kent Mental Health Together and Mental Health Together Plus teams. Community mental health services are undergoing a national restructuring with a focus on delivering interventions, with Occupational Therapy identified as a key part. We have an established team of OTs and aim to maintain and develop our current interventions in the new Mental Health Together and Together + services.

The post would suit an experienced Band 6 seeking to develop new skills. Training and support would be offered to support areas of working that are unfamiliar.


Responsibilities

* Support the delivery of high quality mental health services to service users experiencing a variety of mental health difficulties.
* Provide high quality, evidence-based occupational therapy assessments and interventions (group and individual) to people who access services and their carers/supporters/family members, in line with occupational therapy pathways.
* Communicate effectively with service users, carers, the multi-disciplinary team and, when appropriate, outside agencies.
* Contribute to the generic functioning of the team.
* Provide supervision and mentoring to more junior Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Apprentices and Support Workers.
* Provide occupational therapy student placements.
* Contribute to service development and audit.
* Deliver group work to support complex service users in developing daily living skills and strategies to manage mental health recovery, and deliver one-to-one OT interventions as appropriate.
* Involve in delivering core team functions such as trusted assessments, urgent assessments, risk management and management of clinical pathways delivered by the service, working with a large and varied MDT.
* Be involved in the delivery of Trusted assessments and support the wider team with management and delivery of care through different pathways, including complex case management, Complex Emotional Difficulties, Urgent and Recovery Pathways.
* Support the development of new skills within the team and joint working with support workers to facilitate transitions into other local services.


Requirements / Qualifications

* Full, valid UK driving licence and access to a car/vehicle for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).
* Experience as an Occupational Therapist with ability to deliver OT assessments and interventions, including group work and individual sessions.
* Ability to work within a large MDT and contribute to service development and audit.
* Willingness to supervise and mentor junior staff, apprentices and support workers; capable of providing student placements.
