SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Barking, London
Hours: 8:30am – 4:00pm (Term Time Only)
Hi, I’m Ava, an Education Recruitment Consultant, and I’m currently working with a friendly and inclusive school in Barking. They are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team.
The school supports pupils with a range of special educational needs, including autism, learning difficulties and additional support needs. Staff work closely together to create a positive and structured environment where every child feels safe, valued and able to learn.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys working with children and wants to make a real difference in the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the class teacher in delivering lessons and classroom activities
Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEN
Help pupils stay engaged and focused during lessons
Assist with preparing classroom resources and learning materials
Encourage positive behaviour and support pupils’ emotional wellbeing
Help pupils develop their communication and social skills
Support pupils during break times and other activities throughout the school day
Assist with basic personal care if required
Observe and report on pupil progress to the class teacher
Follow school policies on safeguarding, behaviour and health & safety
Build positive relationships with pupils and act as a good role modelPerson Specification: Experience
Experience working with children or young people, ideally with SEN, is preferred
A background in education, care or support work is beneficialQualifications
Good basic literacy and numeracy skills
Relevant qualifications are desirable but not essential
Willingness to undertake training where requiredKnowledge & Skills
Basic understanding of SEN and different learning needs
Good communication and teamwork skills
Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
